Seeking Adult Actors to perform in plays for families and touring production

Help set the stage for all children to imagine and learn through play as an actor in a 2024 summer production at the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine (CMTM)!

ABOUT THE POSITION 

The Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine is seeking adult actors for two theatre opportunities for the summer portion of the 2024-2025 theatre season. These titles will be publicly shared at our Flying Colors Annual Auction in May. 
In person auditions will be held May 6, 7, 8, 2024 by appointment, and consist of theatre games, improvised scene work, and singing as necessary.
 

ROLES 

Theatre For Young Audiences (TYA) Musical Production

Timeline

  • Rehearsals begin: May 20, 2024

  • Performances: June 29 - July 28, 2024

  • Performances: Wednesdays through Sundays mornings, with two-show performance days on the weekends.

  • This play intends to tour to Maine Schools and Community Centers November - December, 2024.

Adult Roles

  • Role 1: Ebullient and inquisitive. Best friends with Role 2. Vocal range: A3-C5

  • Role 2: Lumbering, somewhat formally attired, prone to melancholy. Best friends with Role 1. Vocal range: A3-E5

  • Roles 3-6: Back up singers/band, some additional bit characters, and friends with roles 1 & 2. Vocal range Ab5 - E3

Theatre For Young Audiences (TYA)  Production

Timeline

  • Rehearsals begin: July 8, 2024

  • Performances: August 10 - 25, 2024

  • Performances: Wednesdays through Sundays mornings, with two-show performance days on the weekend.

  • This play intends to be remounted for a limited run in Maddy’s Theatre February/March 2025, and intends to tour to Maine Schools and Community Centers in March, 2025.

Adult Roles

  • Role 1: “The greatest actor in the world” attempting to put on a one-person extravaganza. Rapidly plays additional characters.

  • Role 2: A delivery person with a mysterious package who has stumbled into the glamorous world of theatre.

Note that the Theatre Team intends to double cast this production. Experience in clowning and physical theatre is a plus but not required.

COMPENSATION 

Actors are paid for rehearsal and performance time. This is a part-time temporary position. $16/hour.  Actors earn PTO in accordance with Maine’s Earned Paid Leave law (1 hour for every 40 hours worked).

Actors work closely with the director, castmates and the theatre team. Actors report directly to the Theatre Production Manager. 

HOW TO AUDITION

Submission deadline is Friday, May 3rd.

You will be asked to confirm conflicts with the production calendar(s) and provide a performance resume at the audition.
